I provide therapy services for individual adults, helping you create more satisfying, fulfilling relationships and also helping you calm anxieties and lift depression.

My style is warm, engaging and interactive. I have a deep respect for personal struggles. I also have deep faith in the process of psychotherapy, based on my many years of helping people to change and flourish.

Things you need to know about me:

I work collaboratively with you, in a back and forth conversational way, to ensure that healing comes from within you, in your own unique way.

I help you discover your strengths as well as help you explore your vulnerabilities.

I am highly trained and very experienced in working with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma and blocked creativity.

I will find the fastest way to help you resolve your difficulties. Some issues can be resolved more quickly than others; it is always up to you how long you stay in therapy.

I can provide tools to help you get to where you want to go.

I aim for deep, lasting resolution of problems, not just temporary relief.

I love my work, and regard it as a privilege.

I am a licensed psychotherapist and marriage and family counselor, and I have been in private practice since 1991.

I am trained in a variety of approaches to psychotherapy, which I use in a very integrated way, designed to suit each client's unique needs.

I have studied psychology all my adult life. My studies have led me from a basic understanding of human behavior and motivation to the study of emotion and how people suffer and how they heal. I have familiarity with the mindfulness practices of Eastern spiritual traditions and how they may enhance our approaches to Western psychotherapy.

Education

Ph.D. East-West Psychology, California Institute of Integral Studies, 2003

M.A. Clinical Psychology, JFK University, Pleasant Hill, CA. 1989

B.S. Psychology, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, 1982

I am trained to do EMDR therapy, an excellent "power tool" for reaching and resolving trauma. I work with EMDR in an attachment-focused, relational way, and I have been successfully using this method for twenty-five years.

I am a Certified Teaching Member (CST-T) of Sandplay Therapists of America (STA) and the International Society for Sandplay Therapy (ISST). Sandplay is a gentle process for resolving trauma, and is very effective for adults who are drawn to it.

In addition to my work as a therapist, I have taught in many university graduate programs, and I have also trained many therapists in counseling centers and agencies. I most recently taught graduate courses at Sonoma State University and The California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. I have also written many published articles and two books that focus on anxiety, trauma and relationship. I currently teach sandplay therapy to therapists nationally and internationally.
